Honor Gaurd

I am a member of the Patriot_Gaurd_Riders. Two weeks ago I went on my "first" mission for Cpl Matthew Alexander, 21, who died May 6 in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Cpl Alexander leaves behind a wife and his parents.

It was an honor and a heartbreak to stand with 'ol Glory' in tribute to a young life lost for the freedoms I enjoy.

Last week I attended the graduation of a young man I have come to admire. He is the son of my High School best friend. The son is joining the U.S. Marine Corps with plans on making it a career. This young man has grown and matured greatly under the toutaledge of my friend, his wife, friends, family and the church. I am proud of this, soon to be Marine, man. Amazingly, it was only 5 years ago he didn't know his thumb from his big toe. :0

I grew up during the Vietnam era. And just like so many others, this man has chosen to serve his country during a time of war. A time when life is uncertain and death could be near. It's the terrorizing "unknown" of existence.

Another friend of mine sent me the following poem. I publish this poem in honor of ALL the men and women who serve us in the necessary cause of freedom.

GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY. MAY PEACE COME QUICKLY!
