TIME PASSAGES
We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish . . . uh.
Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? . . . uh , oh.
I guess all the holidays are over and done. Hmmm . . . . Seems they came and went quickly. The days of our lives are like that, especially as we get older.
Bea Arthur on “Golden Girls” said it well as I am caught somewhere between “forty and death”. The majority of my working days are past and retirement is visible on the far horizon. I have experienced good days and bad; glad times and sad. Throughout my life I’ve had enemies, friends and ‘best of friends’. Life has been lived and death has been tasted. It is all good.
How do you feel when you revisit your life? How has God been part?
Singer Artist Al Stewart wrote a song “Time Passages”; Christian artist Randy Stonehill wrote “Celebrate This Heartbeat”; Frank Sinatra’s “Days of Wine and Roses”; and one of my favorites, Louie Armstrong’s “It’s A Wonderful World”.
Yeah, the years run short and there a less ahead. And, yes, “I remember the days of long ago”. I couldn’t wait to “go to school”, turn 10, turn 13 (official teen), turn 16 (driver’s license) and turn 18 (drink, vote & the Draft). There was need to hurry life. Grandmother used to say, “don’t wish time away”. I didn’t understand that at 21; my understanding is much better today.
Psalm 139 states
“Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. “
We and God know our history. Only God knows the future. Find wisdom from the past, celebrate today and hope for days to come.
I'm gonna celebrate this heartbeat, Cause it just might be my last
Everyday is a gift from the Lord on high; And they all go by so fast
Randy Stonehill (1984)
